Creation Rules

  • The Character must be a basic, by-the-book Mortal character.
  • Mortal characters start with one initial dot in Attributes.
  • No more than thirty (30) freebies and up to seven (7) points in flaws. Flaws must be played out. PbN Staff reserves the right to ensure that you play out the flaws.
  • Carefully check the Approval Guidelines below on what else needs to be approved.
  • You must send in a sheet to the Mortal Staff mortal@pensacolabynight.com. You do not need to wait for approval and may "test play" a character while waiting for approval. If you would like to 'test-play' your character before sending in a sheet, in order to get an idea of where to put stats, you need to speak with the Mortal Staff. If you are allowed to 'test-play' with out a sheet submitted you will have one week to do so, and then you must send in a sheet.

Attributes

It is suggested you make characters with just a few 3's and a handful of 2's. It means they're average for the most part, and just a little better in certain ways (for example, the high-school football player with Strength 3 and Stamina 3, or the nerd with Intelligence 3 and Wits 3). We think average people more-or-less fit this mold. Attributes higher than 4 needs to be discussed with staff prior to submission for approval. If someone wants to play the chess-master with Wits 5, or the martial artist with Dexterity 5... then you need to speak with the Mortal Staff before submitting the character.

Abilities

Abilities of 2 are college-level skills, or practiced skills. 3 is a skill practiced very often (at least 3 times a week) - such as in the course of work, or Master degree-level education. 4 would require CONSTANT practice (hours of INTENSE practice almost every day) and devotion, or doctorate-level study. So, anything higher than 3 needs to be discussed with staff prior to submission for approval. GOOD. You're playing a middle-aged mortal doctor? I'm sure we'll approve Medicine 4. You're playing a high-school cheerleader? No, you can't have Melee 4. You're playing a 18 year old kid? No, you can't have Abilities that take more than your 18 years to achieve the level you want them at.

Keep in mind that those are the Character Creation Guidelines for NORMAL MORTALS only. Sorcerers and Consors are handled by the Mage Staff, Ghouls and Retainers are handled by the Vampire Staff, Kinfolk are handled by the Werewolf Staff and Kinain are handled by the Changeling Staff. Please also keep in mind that if you want to play a supernatural that starts out as a mortal (I.E. a Vampire prior to Embrace, a Ghoul prior to the Blood Bond, a Changeling prior to Chrysalis, a Mage prior to Awakening, a Garou prior to First Change, etc) that you need to contact the system of which your mortal will later become. This has no weight on Mortal characters who by some twist of the RP Gods and Fate, ended up as supernatural. However, if your Mortal does move up the supernatural chain, please do contact both Mortal Staff and the system of which your Mortal now belongs to.
