Cunning, misdirection, connivance: these are the tools of the Nephandi. This Effect fabricates a convincing illusion that leaves real aftereffects, such as broken furniture or lipstick on a cheek. With Life 3 instead of Matter^, the illusion can include such consequences as a burning cheek from a slap, minor aches, symptoms of pregnancy, etc.

Nephandi use this to create incriminating sights among a victim's friends and acquaintances in order to alienate them. They might see the victim make a clumsy seduction attempt, scream imprecations or "reveal" false secrets about himself.

[Viewers may resist the illusion with Willpower or countermagick if they have some reason to doubt it. If the illusion is skillful, however, they remain unaware of the Effect. The number of successes determines the complexity and realism of the illusion: three or more successes indicates a convincing sight.]

[Variations of this rote are common. Prime 2 may be added to create items that did not already exist, while Forces 2/ Correspondence 2 can alter videotape images {see the Point-to-Point Narrow-Band Transmission rote in Chapter One). With a lot of time, patience, Matter 2 and a few dots in Technology, the Fallen One can create brand-new videotapes of damning but fictional events — a theft, vandalism, murder, etc.]
