Gremlins

(• • Entropy, • • Spirit)                                                                               Hidden Lore  71

This rote offers one symptom of the Dreamspeakers' changing nature, which many other Traditions call madness. During World War II, legends of "gremlins" (mischievous spirits that interfere with machinery) arose spontaneously among Sleepers, despite the Technocracy's best efforts. Dreamspeakers in urban areas exploit these legends cp summon actual gremlins, visible only to Awakened beings. The Sons of Ether find gremlins intensely distasteful; some even call them "cruel to machinery." Virtual Adepts destroy gremlins on sight, as they would a cockroach.

[Summoning a gremlin requites at least three successes on the Effect roll, Each additional success doubles the number of gremlins summoned. A gremlin is a Storyteller character with Attributes of 2, Technology 3, Computer 1, Willpower 4 and three Health Levels. It has the Charms Materialize, Control Electrical Systems, Short Out (makes machinery inoperable) and Ruin Software (causes software programs to develop bugs). Unless it Materializes, the spirit cannot be seen by mortal sight. Most demand some kind of bribe before they go to work. Gremlins often remain for the magick's duration, and aren't choosy about whose machinery they wreck!]
