In Mafia lore, the ace of diamonds is an unlucky card.

This Adjustment brings that superstition to grim life. With it,

an InSpector or other Syndicate operative can inflict extreme

bad luck on an enemy. Although this Effect only lasts for a

short time — an hour, at most — during that time Murphy's

Law has complete and utter control over the victim's life. His

luck is so bad as to put his life in danger. Attacking the

Technocrat is about the worst thing he can do, since inevitably

weapons break or misfire (or explode in his hands), and

other attacks fare no better.

[In simple terms, this Effect inflicts a curse on the

victim's Pattern. Every two successes rolled during the casting

causes the subject to lose one success from each of his

subsequent rolls, for the duration of the Effect. As usual,

should the subject score a "negative" number of successes, the

result is a botch.]
